Pricing your shipping rates

Updated 19 August 2026

Each shipping profile carries its own pricing. Prices are set in your store currency; Shopify handles conversion for international shoppers.

The pricing builder

For each profile:

  1. Base rate: the flat price. Set 0 for free shipping.
  2. Optional tier table: vary the price by one of:
    • Cart subtotal: for example £4.95 under £50 and free over £50. A free-shipping threshold is a tier priced 0.
    • Cart weight: for example £6 up to 2kg and £9 above.
    • Cart quantity: for example per-case pricing for drinks.
  3. Availability conditions: show or hide the whole rate based on the cart: minimum/maximum order value, weight, quantity, specific products/collections/tags/vendors/SKUs, stock levels, product metafields, or how soon the ship date is. Modes: offer on all orders, only show when conditions match, or hide when they match.
  4. Rate rules: targeted adjustments on top. hide the rate, force-show it, set a fixed/free price, or add/subtract from the shipping cost when a condition matches.

Date-based pricing

Two ways to charge by when rather than what:

  • Delivery surcharges: add a fee to specific weekdays, such as Saturday delivery at +£5. The calendar shows the +£ badge on those days. See delivery surcharges.
  • Ship-date conditions: offer a rate only when the calculated dispatch is soon enough. An "Express" profile can then appear only when it can genuinely dispatch today.

Rules to know

  • Dynamic vs flat: a profile using live carrier pricing/transit is labelled a dynamic courier rate; everything else is flat pricing you control. Both can carry tiers and conditions.
  • If your Shopify plan doesn't support live (carrier-calculated) rates, Flare manages static Shopify rates instead. Flat prices and subtotal or weight tiers carry over, but quantity tiers can't be expressed as static Shopify rates and are skipped with a warning on save.
  • Prices show at checkout next to the profile name, and optionally with the delivery date appended. See rates at checkout.
