Delivery surcharges by day

Updated 19 August 2026

Charge more for premium days, the classic being Saturday delivery at +£5, without creating a whole separate rate.

Available on the Organised plan and above. Delivery surcharges are being retired, so the section only appears for stores that already have one configured.

Set it up

  1. Open Shipping & rates and find Delivery surcharges (cart page). If the section is not there, your store has no surcharge and cannot add one. Price the day into the shipping option, or use rate tiers.

  2. Select Add delivery surcharge, or open a surcharge you already have.

  3. Choose the Surcharge type:

    • Weekday: pick the day in Select Weekday. Weekday surcharges apply only when shipping zones are off.
    • Shipping Profile: pick the profiles in Select shipping profiles. Use this one when shipping zones are on.

Specific Date is listed as coming soon and cannot be chosen.

  4. Enter the Surcharge amount and choose the Currency.

  5. Select Save.

To take a surcharge away, select Remove surcharge, then save.

How shoppers experience it

  • Surcharges work in the date picker on your cart page. They do not apply in Shopify's own checkout.
  • Days that carry a surcharge show +£n in the calendar, and the picker prints the amount under it once a date is chosen, so there are no surprises at payment.
  • Flare adds the surcharge to the cart as its own line, alongside the products.

Tips

  • Use surcharges for day premiums; use rate tiers for cart-based pricing. They combine cleanly.
  • If you run shipping zones, price the premium day into the shipping option instead. Give the Saturday service its own price on Shipping & rates.
  • Peak-day capacity problems are usually better solved with an order limit than a price, or both.
