Setup guide: go live in 15 minutes

Updated 19 August 2026

Flare has no setup wizard. Setup lives on the Dashboard, in a card called Set up delivery dates. The card has four steps and a progress bar.

Each step ticks itself when Flare detects the work is done, so there is nothing to mark as finished. You can leave and come back at any point, and you can do the steps in any order. Every page in the navigation opens from day one, so you can configure any area while you set up.

If you would rather do it with us, click Book a call in the page header.

Before you start

Install Flare: Delivery Date Picker from the Shopify App Store, then open the app. You land on the Dashboard. The setup card reads Not live yet and 0 of 4 done.

Nothing changes on your storefront until you finish step 2.

Step 1: Set your date availability

Click Set availability. Flare opens Date availability. Set two things:

  • Booking window: which weekdays you deliver, and the earliest and latest date a customer can choose.
  • Delivery cutoffs: the time of day after which an order counts as placed tomorrow.

The step ticks as soon as you save your delivery days, a cutoff time, or an earliest date.

Blocked dates sit on the same page. Add your holidays now or later. See Blocked dates.

These settings apply store-wide. If you deliver differently by region, add overrides later in Shipping & rates. See Shipping zones overview.

Availability comes before the picker on purpose. If you add the picker first, customers see a live picker that still offers the default dates.

Step 2: Let customers choose a date

Choose one place for the date picker:

Location Best for
Cart page Most stores. Sits above the Checkout button.
Cart drawer Stores where the cart opens as a side panel.
Product page Stores where the date matters before add to cart, such as gifting and made to order.
Checkout Shopify Plus only, and recommended if you have it. It needs no theme edit and covers every buying path.

Pick one location only. Two pickers on one storefront show two calendars and conflict with each other.

Not sure whether you have a cart page or a cart drawer? See Do I have a cart page or a cart drawer?

Then add the picker:

  1. Click Open theme editor, or Open checkout editor for the checkout picker. Shopify opens in a new tab with the right block ready to add.
  2. Add the block, then click Save in Shopify's editor.
  3. Go back to the Flare tab. Flare looks for the picker in your published theme and ticks the step on its own.

If the step still says Not seen yet, wait a few seconds and click Check again. If it never ticks, see I can't see the date picker.

If your theme uses a cart drawer but the picker sits on the cart page, the step warns you and offers to move it. In those themes, customers may never open the cart page.

To change the picker's wording and styling, open Storefront experience.

Step 3: Confirm the date after checkout

This step has three rows. Each one opens a page in Customer communications in a new tab:

  • Thank you page: shows the chosen date straight after payment. Flare verifies this row for you.
  • Order confirmation email: you paste a snippet into Shopify's email template. Flare cannot read Shopify's templates, so click Mark as added when the snippet is in.
  • Order status page: recommended, not required. This is the page customers come back to days later. Flare verifies this row too.

The step completes on the thank you page and the email. The order status row never holds the step open.

If you are in a hurry, click Skip for now and finish this later.

Step 4: Start your free trial

Click Choose a plan. Flare opens Pricing. Every paid plan includes a free trial. See Plans, billing and trials. Shopify shows its own approval screen, and nothing is charged until the trial ends.

Dates do not show to customers until a plan is active, so this step is what makes the picker live.

When the guide goes away

Your store is Live once the picker, your availability, and your plan are all done. The card then changes to Finish your setup and asks you to finish the confirmations in step 3.

When step 3 is done, the card retires and the Dashboard shows your live cards instead: your date picker status, the week's orders, and this month's totals.

Dismiss hides the card in the browser you are using. It is remembered per browser, so if you finish setup on a laptop and later open Flare on another computer, or clear your browser data, the card can come back until step 3 is complete.

After setup, a 5-point checklist

  1. Place a test order. Check the date lands on the order as a tag and an attribute. See what Flare writes on orders.
  2. Add your real cutoff times. See Cutoff times.
  3. Block any upcoming holidays. See Blocked dates.
  4. Add the date to your order status page. See Thank-you page and order status page.
  5. If you deliver differently by region, set up shipping zones. See Shipping zones overview.
